Based on other reviews I've read, it seems that my experience with this book is very different from just about all other reviews. I really did like the other books in this series. And really, I don't throw around one star ratings lightly. But this story was a complete fail for me. The writing was choppy, the characters were underdeveloped. I read this feeling like I was trying to put the pieces together while only getting half of the details. Apple has PTSD and a head injury from his time in the service (neither of which we get much detail on). Yet he is determined fit enough to work in law enforcement, even after some pretty serious events have scarred him badly enough that everyone around him can see how broken he is. Ok. Kitt has a serious seizure disorder, that no one seems to think is a big deal. She takes it seriously enough to avoid driving, but not seriously enough to practice safe sex. Ok. Up until this point, I was still on board. The author laid enough ground work to understand that both characters were broken and finding their way. I expected we'd learn more about Apple somewhere in there. Then the book took a completely different direction and felt like someone else jumped in to write the ending. Throw in not one but two car accidents, a stalker from out of nowhere, medical errors, Apple doing battle minutes after surgery, Kitt going completely psycho with revenge... it was like a bad action movie. All we were missing was aliens and cyborgs. It was really ridiculous. And a complete turn off. But it sounds like other reviewers do not agree, so maybe it's just me?

I'm going to start this review by saying that I used to be a huge fan of LLV! However, recently it seems like her novels are lackluster and a little boring. The idea behind this story is awesome two people with some fairly serious issues, one a little more broken than the other, come together and heal each other over the course of their accidental pregnancy. In actual execution, there were so many missed opportunities for excellent writing. One example, Apple has PTSD from his deployment and events that took place involving the death of his friend. I felt that this was a major point of Apple's character and needed an in depth focus. What I got was one sentence "Apple has PTSD", given the same focus that one would write "Apple had a sandwich for lunch". If not for this accidental pregnancy, the two characters would never had come together, and almost didn't get together even though she was pregnant. It was like the author was grasping at stings to bring this story together.

Overall, I could not get immersed into this story like previous stories by this author. I found over half the book to be annoyingly written with many missed opportunities for improvement. I did notice that LLV has a new novel coming out every other month for various series, my guess is that quantity of novels now takes precedent over quality of writing.
Okay, that was different. Now, there's good different and then there's bad different. Which one is this? Well.... I can't decide. I'm a long time fan of LLV and pretty auto buy all her books, but this one left me wanting. I liked Kitt and Apple, as well as the premise of the story, but it seemed to just skim the surface for me. For a book told in dual POV; there's a lot of info we don't get. We're told how broken Apple believes himself to be. Additionally, we're told he was a soldier with PTSD, was a cop in LA, that there was a horrible incident with his best friend and he moved to Podunk, Tx because his dad thought it would be good for him to join the Uncertain Saints MC. Now you know all about Apple, oops I forgot, apparently he gets so caught up with quick frantic sex (with Kitt) that he can't remember to use condoms. Oh yeah, about two thirds of the way through we get one sentence where he tells Kitt that he has depression, takes meds, but ran out and that's why he's acting a little off. NOW, you know ALL about Apple. It never really went into depth or expounded how these events helped to shape his life.

Kitt has seizures, but we really don't know why, just that she "zones out" for about thirty seconds when she has one, until she's pregnant, then they go all haywire. There's never any details about how it has affected her life; just that when she gets the bad ones during her pregnancy, Apple hols her for hours while she sleeps. Somewhere between 2/3 and 3/4 of the book we miraculously get a sentence that Kitt and Ridley have a brother (Ridley's twin no less) he's not well liked (no clue why) and Ridley got the exact same tattoo as his twin so he could go undercover in a prison for a month.

As far as the romance went, well, I didn't really see it or feel it. They have unprotected sex a couple of times and bam she's pregnant. They didn't really date and weren't together as a couple for more than half of the book. The "mystery" aspect of the story was not only obvious but felt rushed. I thought the whole thing kinda felt disjointed and lacked depth........d(
