Great story with realistic main character and great action. My only complaint is I felt like alot of loose threads never got resolved, not sure if because they were addressed in other books or if the answers are yet to come. Where did wrens falcons come from? Are they regular birds or something more and if so what? Why is there a bounty on the northern fighter and none of the other men? Who is he? Who is the man that overthrew the king and why did he do it? Why was wrens family suddenly broken up? It is the mark of a good story that I care about all this but all the loose ends got to me a bit. Hopefully I will find some answers in the other books in the series but I wanted more resolution in this one. I did like the way wrens faith was naturally worked in without getting preachy or holding up the story. I also liked how her fighting abilities were portrayed. She was good but not to the point where you want to start rolling your eyes, which is a refreshing change in this type of book. On the whole very enjoyable mix of action faith and some light romance, will definitely check out others in series.

WHERE is the sequel? LOL I'd like to know more about Wren!
A good clean adventure read! I especially like the way the book begins, the characters, and the part Deus plays in it all. A good "mediaeval" feel to the story. Enjoyed every minute of it. Can't wait to see if the rest of the family's stories are as good!!!
My daughter and I felt pulled into this from the get go! If anyone takes the time to read my comment then you ought to purchase the book, I don't think you will be disappointed as I am anxiously waiting for her to publish the rest of the Family!!!! There is a certain brooding/quiet brother that I am excited to see much more about!
Wonderfully written and romantic in a good way.Rachel has a great style that moves you along and even overwhelms you at times. Great Christian ethics intertwined with the characters. A magnificent tale of a strong woman and the strong men she encounters in her travels.
I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. I have been looking for a clean book with just a little romance. Most of the books I have read lately are good at first but soon become filled with crude content or an annoying main character but this book was worth it. I also liked that there was a story that had nothing to do with the romance. I just wish this author wrote more books like this that are as long or longer than this one. I never buy a book that is less than 300 pages. I recommend this book to anyone that likes slight romance without and the bickering/sexual content and frustrating characters.
I absolutely LOVED this one! Wren was able to do all the things a man did, better, but she was still a woman and did not struggle with who or what she was. She was able to adapt herself to any situation, and was accepted by the people who cared for her, as she was. There was acknowledgement that she was different, that it wasn't accepted by society and that it could cause problems for her, but that she lived her life her own way and was content because of it. I loved that Tourth accepted her as she was and appreciated her as she was. He had no need for her to be weaker so that he could be stronger, there was no struggle for superiority or dominance between them.

I liked the strong spirituality in this book. God is called Deus, but there is no mistaking that it is God and He is called on often. If you don't like spiritual books, this is not the book for you, or the author, for that matter.
Wren Romany is forced to leave home and make her own way in the world. She is a highly skilled hunter of both animals and men, but faces a hard winter. She doesn't want to spend it camping out along the road and living hand-to-mouth, so she offers her services to Tourth Mynth, lord of a ruined fortress. Mynth is laying low, while trying to help his people. He does his best to stay out of the sights of the valley's evil "Enforcer," but will have to make a choice that is very risky.

When I started the book, the first couple of chapters confused me, because they were both told from the first person point-of-view, though they seemed to be different characters. That's when I realized the name that headed each chapter was the person speaking, which means the whole book is written from the first person POV of someone. When I went back and re-read the chapters, the information made sense.

The story was entertaining and the characters were both believable and likable. I'm interested to read more from this author.
