The Revised Version, Standard American Edition of the Bible (commonly known as the American Standard Version or ASV) is the result of cooperation between British and American scholars who worked on the revision of the King James (Authorized Version) Bible between 1872 and 1901. The goal was to provide readers with accurate, literal, word-for-word translation of the Holy Scriptures. The revisers retained the archaic language of the KJV in most instances. ASV has served as the basis for a number of modern translations and paraphrases, such as Revised Standard Version, Amplified Bible, New American Standard Bible, the Recovery Version, the World English Bible, and the Living Bible.

Features of this version of the ASV Bible that has the same text as your paper copy

– Direct Verse Jump and Direct Verse Jump 2, two revolutionary new methods to open the exact verse you need in mere seconds
– two other ways to navigate between books and chapters (i) using a hyperlinked table of contents; and (ii) pressing the joystick right or left to move between books and chapters of the Bible. Once you learn all four navigation methods, you will be able to open any verse in your Bible as fast as (or even faster than) in your paper copy
– includes prefaces to Old and New Testaments from the American and English Revised Versions
– The text of this electronic edition is painstakingly verified to be true to the ASV paper editions
– correctly formatted (i.e., true formatting of the original ASV – italics; poetic formatting of Psalms, etc.)
– easy to determine where you are in the Bible
– the text is broken into paragraphs for cohesion of the text
– as any book, the ASV Bible is searchable; however, when you first install the file please wait for the to index the whole Bible (about 10 minutes). The file is large and it takes a long time to index. For this reason, the DVJ navigation method will be available only after the book has been indexed

Note that this edition does not include the marginal notes.

I bought this mainly because I had read so many nice things about the jump index system. I found that system to be okay, but not really all that much faster than going to the table of contents. If they would have always used a 3 letter initials for the book I think it would be better. As it is, I have to remember which books are two letter and which are three. Some book initials are intuitive, but others are just plain baffling.

As a translation, the ASV is too archaic for my liking. There are just too many other good translations out there to try to plow through the wording of the ASV. Its paragraph form is nice -- especially when trying to read from a Kindle.

Bible ASV DVJ; paragraphed edition by Godinspired Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

Maybe it's just me, but on the paperwhite, it's a little hard to navigate. I find that most bibles work really well on the kindle fire, but on the reader, not so much. It could just be me though!
So far, I'm just looking at the sample download rather than the full version. I have to say I'm a bit confused. Other reviewers are speaking as though this is the King James Version. It isn't. It's the ASV, and is listed as such in the description. It's a 1901 revision of the 1611 King James Version. In all fairness, the title page mentions the 1611 KJV. As I understand it, the ASV is the precurser to the NASB, New American Standard (Version) Bible. Any review of a Bible should also include the specific translation, and as I haven't been familiar with this translation, I did an internet search. There's an interesting article about its background on Wikipedia here [...]. This is definitely not the KJV or New American Standard Bible.

From what I can tell from the sample download, and what I've seen from other available Bibles, the interface is superior. There's a table of contents from which you can access any chapter in the Bible. I like how when reading, the verse numbers also include the chapter numbers, i.e., 2611, 2612, etc. Love it, because we can tell what chapter we're reading without paging back to the beginning of the chapter.

This Bible is exactly what it claims to be, American Standard Version, no footnotes, cross references or fancy features. It's the Word of God without comment. Sometimes exactly what we need.

I've had my for only a few days, so take that into consideration when considering my review.
There are abbreviations for the various books of the bible that allow you to use the 's search tool to jump to specific books of the bible, e.g. ro.3.12 will take you to Romans 312.

I only gave the book 3 stars because I did not like the translation. I will be purchasing a different version of the bible from this publisher.
The translation is good. The translators have chosen to use the term "Jehovah" everywhere that "the Lord" is used in other versions. So, for example, in reading through the Psalms, certain favorite psalms that happen to repeat "the Lord, the Lord," say "Jehovah, Jehovah." I prefer other translations such as the NIV (New International Version) which offers both beauty AND accuracy.
While I wasn't fond of the translation, I'll limit my review mostly to the navigation or lack of. There is a working TOC, so you can select a Book & Verse. However, searches using the Book name, or the abbreviation for the Book didn't work at all. I found it very difficult to navigate, having to go back to the TOC every time I wanted to find a verse.

I returned this version and am hoping the the NASV will be more suited to my needs. The ASV would be fine for use along side another version, but I also didn't care for "Lord" being translated Jehovah.
I bought this bible primarily for it's navigation abilities. I have a 3rd gen and I have yet to get the navigation to work. I was disappointed. Any suggestions

Right after publishing the review the publisher responded with a comment on how to use the navigation. Very simple hit index and then type the abbrev. book names and chapters. I was trying to just type in the books, verses and hit find which did not work. My suggestion I guess would be to have the directions and abrev list at the beginning of the book. The other feature I would love to see is a return to beginning tab. Thanks for the response
This is the true Word of God. Read and study it and believe all of it for it is true and able to save you to the uttermost.
